For some people, all-inclusive resorts on beautiful Caribbean beaches are the perfect vacation. Some people would rather leave the beach behind and go somewhere else for their dream honeymoon.

Some couples who just got married don’t want to spend their whole trip at the beach. Some people love adventure, mountains, kayaking, hiking, and exploring random street markets, talking to locals, and maybe seeing some cool animals along the way.

We made a list of honeymoon spots that aren’t beaches, in case you don’t want to be in the sun and sand the whole time.

1. Chiang Mai in Thailand

Chiang Mai honeymoon

Want to experience fantastic culture, delicious cuisine, and the local wildlife? Stop looking any further than Northern Thailand. Volunteer with elephants at Elephant Nature Park, take a cooking lesson to learn about Thai cuisine, or see the temples in the Old City.

At Akyra Manor Chiang Mai, you’ll be right in the middle of everything, and yet you’ll feel like you’re miles away thanks to the city’s expansive vistas and enormous bowl-shaped bathtub.

2. Queenstown in New Zealand

Queenstown honeymoon

For those with a serious need for speed, the world’s adventure capital is waiting for you. There is no shortage of adrenaline-pumping activities in this region, from heli-hiking on a glacier to bungee jumping from bridges to trekking one of New Zealand’s famed treks to black water rafting through a cave filled with glowworms. Just be sure to slow down and savor that lovely New Zealand wine later.

Azur Luxury Lodge, situated on the shores of Lake Wakatipu, not only provides guests with unobstructed views of the stunning lake from every room, but also provides them with great meals prepared with ingredients acquired from the area.

3. Iceland

Iceland honeymoon

A road journey through Iceland, from the exotic Blue Lagoon to the majestic waterfalls of Sk√≥gafoss, is a nature lover’s dream. To put it simply, hiking anywhere on this island is a good idea. If you want to see the northern lights, you should visit during the winter.

You should stay at The Retreat at Blue Lagoon. The Lagoon Suite is worth every penny since it is luxurious, up-to-date, and comes with free access to the world-famous Blue Lagoon. Consistently high marks and a high ranking from Conde Nast Traveler are its hallmarks. In this city, a trip to the spa is a mandatory stop before you depart.

4. Banff National Park/Lake Louise

Lake Louise honeymoon

Do you find beauty in the majesty of the mountains and the tranquility of the lakes there? In that case, Alberta, Canada is a hidden treasure with plenty of mountains, spas, and the usual kind welcome you’d expect from the Canadian people. This place may be ideal if you want to go skiing, hang out by the fire, and go on long hikes.

In addition to being treated like royalty, waking up in the Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel means being greeted by a breathtaking view of mountains and lakes.

5. Ireland

Ireland honeymoon

A road trip throughout Ireland is a must for anybody but is especially great for a honeymoon retreat. See the greenest landscape you’ve ever seen along the Dingle Peninsula, drive down to the Cliffs of Moher, and end your day with a pint at Temple Bar in Dublin on your way back from Northern Ireland’s Giant’s Causeway.

While there are gorgeous bed & breakfasts all throughout, nothing quite surpasses staying in a real castle. At Dromoland Castle, you may pretend you’re in a scene from Game of Thrones or a Disney movie.

6. Austria

Austria honeymoon

The Austrian proverb “The hills are alive with the sound of music” is a universal truth. Vienna is a must-see for anybody with an appreciation for classical music or a penchant for decadent chocolate cake. Next, go on a train to see the picturesque cities of Hallstatt and Innsbruck, where you can take in sights like the crystal-clear alpine lakes and towering mountains. Come to Austria in December to see some of Europe’s most beautiful Christmas markets.

Elegant and contemporary, the Guesthouse Vienna offers stunning panoramas of Austria’s city. Put it to use as a base from which to discover the rest of this charming city.

7. New York

New York honeymoon

We are not sure about you, but we much rather be lost in a bustling metropolis than on a deserted beach. There is no shortage of entertainment options in New York. Take in as much historical art as you can at the Metropolitan Museum of Art before strolling across Central Park with your special someone. Easily the nicest lunch we’ve ever had was at Per Se, one of New York City’s five Michelin 3-star restaurants.

The High Line Hotel can be found in the heart of Chelsea, where visitors can enjoy easy access to the city’s best art galleries, the High Line, and the Chelsea Market.

8. Peru

Peru honeymoon

From the Amazon to ancient ruins, there are endless reasons to make Peru your dream honeymoon vacation. It’s hard to put into words how stunning this area is, whether you’re planning a trip to see Machu Picchu or hoping to see the fabled floating islands of Lake Titicaca. This beautiful South American treasure will have you falling head over heels in no time.

Hotel Sol Y Luna is located in the Sacred Valley in Urubamba, surrounded by the Andes mountains. A fantastic location to stop and rest on the road to Machu Picchu, you may stay in a beautiful casita with heated flooring, a fireplace, and a private patio with magnificent views.

9. South Africa

South Africa honeymoon

One of the most incredible and life-changing adventures you can have is a safari in South Africa. Make sure this location is on your bucket list. Imagine waking up to the sounds of nature, the thrill of seeing lions basking in the morning light, and a candlelit dinner for two beneath the stars. After your safari is over, take some time to enjoy Cape Town and the nearby wine regions of Stellenbosch, Paarl, and Franschhoek.

The Thorntree River Lodge in Zambia is Courtnie’s preferred location. Yes, it sounds about right to us. It is more up-to-date and situated on the riverbank. We don’t advocate going on game drives, but cruises, kayaking, seeing rhino spots, and going to the Falls are all must-dos.
